It is difficult to critique a painting that keeps changing focus, so the easy parts first: the limited cool-colour palette and dim tones are well suited to the subject matter. The strong verticals compliment the noose/swing. The cloth is well produced.
If I have a couple of niggles, they would be that the highlights on the trees just to the left of the body bring them forward a little too far compared to their bases, and that the bottoms of the cloth might do better to have the ragged bits receding and the hemmed part coming forward. The hair, very difficult to perform at two sizes, does not entirely work for me, but I suspect this is in part because I cannot focus on it well enough. In the hanged-girl it looks a little too line-art for my taste, but frankly I do not know of how it could be improved without altering it for the lady on the swing. I am not sure it should be altered, only sure that it makes it difficult for me to focus on one figure at a time.
I was very close to giving this full marks, but tiny tiny things prevented me from doing it. This is more a reflection on the critic than on the art. It is awesome, and I am glad that it exists in the world.
